Tuesday was jam packed with activity. The contestants started the day with breakfast at the Dover Downs buffet. A huge thanks to Dover Downs who supplies the majority of the contestants and board meals for the week. If you haven’t been to the buffet you really should try it sometime. The selection is huge and just delicious!!
After everyone filled up on breakfast, the contestants went back to the ballroom for rehearsal where they learned the swimsuit and evening gown walk and they ran through the contestant introductions.
Next on the agenda was lunch at the Lone Star Steakhouse in Camden. It was a fun but quick lunch as the contestants had to get to Legislative hall. At Legislative Hall the contestants were each able to introduce themselves to the House, Senate and our Honorable Governor. As always, our legislators were very gracious and eager to meet some of Delaware’s finest young women. The contestants made us all proud and continue to show that they are just as intelligent as they are beautiful.
The contestants were then able to return to Dover Downs and had a brief moment to freshen up before the Miss Delaware Little Sister Pizza Party and Rehearsal. We are thrilled to have 36 Little Sisters participating this year. If you have not seen the show before, the Little Sisters perform in the opening of the show and then escort the contestants in evening gown. I honestly don’t know who enjoys this more, the big or little sisters! I just know that the parents of the contestants would have been so proud to see the way their daughters interacted with Little Sisters last night. The contestants are true role models in every sense of the word and love mentoring the little ones. What a fun event!!! A huge thanks to everyone who helped with the Little Sister Rehearsal last night especially Bliss, Kayla, and Tori!
Following Little Sister rehearsal the contestants jumped straight into their own rehearsal. We once again worked on the production numbers and learned the finale. It’s always such a great feeling for the contestants (and me) to know that there is no more choreography to learn.
It was wonderful to have Miss Delaware’s Outstanding Teen, Tori Brown-O’Brien join us for rehearsal last night. If you have not yet had a chance to see Tori dance you are in for a serious treat. She is only 15 years old and just unbelievably gifted!! It’s not surprising because her grandmother was a professional dancer and then one of the greatest dance teachers to ever be in Delaware and her mother is also a very gifted dancer who currently is a dance teacher. It’s just in Tori’s blood and it shows. Tori is also just an exceptionally sweet girl and is going to do an amazing job representing Delaware in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant at the end of the summer.
We wrapped up production rehearsal at around 10:00 and then the fabulous Ms. Dulceana had a fun activity for the contestants. Each contestant had to give Ms. Dulceana a pair of shoes. The contestants were then escorted from the ballroom while all of the shoes were being hidden somewhere in the ballroom. The contestants were then split into their Mu and Delta group and told that they had to race around the ballroom and find all of the shoes for their group. All I can say is that the judges better get ready because this group is fiercely competitive. They raced around the ballroom like crazy looking for shoes and then when they found a shoe from the other team the would either hide it in a harder spot or race around the ballroom with the shoe trying to keep it away from the other team. I couldn’t even tell you which team ended up winning but it was hysterical and the contestants had a great time!
After a quick pep talk from Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell and some yummy cake ball treats made by Kayla the contestants were finally able to head back to their rooms at about 10:30.
Spirits and energy are high. The contestants must be getting a bit tired at this point but they aren’t showing it. Wednesday morning they will be up bright and early to read to children at local elementary schools. Wednesday evening is also exciting because it’s dress rehearsal time and the local directors and mentors will be joining us for the evening. I know the contestants are looking forward to spending some time with their personal cheerleaders!
