Damn Proud

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that Dan and I went to a farewell party. The party was for a dear friend of ours, Nick Papendrew, who leaves this week for Boot Camp.  He is going into the Army in the hopes of becoming a Ranger.  We met Nick in College and he is one of Dan's fraternity brothers (Phi Sigma Kappa) and was a groomsman in our wedding.  He has a heart of gold and we wish him the best of luck in this new adventure.  It was really hard to see him off.  He has three small children and an wife at home.  He will get to come home for a day or two here and there but will essentially be gone for an entire year (at least).  What a huge sacrifice our military makes to defend our freedom...it honestly brings me to tears.

It was wonderful to spend time with some dear old friends in an old hangout.  We all met up at Grotto's on Mainstreet in Newark.  We definitely felt our age a bit while we were there.  When we go there, there was a large group of really drunk guys dancing and fist pumping.  We quickly went as far away from them as possible.  It's hard to believe that not too long ago we would have been right in the middle of that (well, maybe a little longer than I would like to admit).  The Phi Sigs are always saying...Damn Proud!  I have no idea why (I'm sure there is some deep explanation and meaning) but in this case I think it fits...Damn Proud Nick!

Good luck and God Bless you Nick!  We are so proud of you and will be praying for you and your family.  We love you!

Tough Guys:  Nick and Dan
Phi Sigs...still drinking at Grottos all these years later:-)
