Sorry, I’m a little late on the blog. My need for sleep won out over the need to get the blog done last night.
COMPETITION DAY!!!! I am pleased to report that all three of our girls who have been sick are feeling much better and were actually able to sneak in a good deal of rest today.
The contestants spent the morning completing the first phase of competition…private interview. They reported that the judges were great and that they seemed to really care a lot about getting to know about them as people and not so much about whether or not they were on top of the latest current events. Everyone that I was able to speak to felt really good about their interview…shew! I posted some of the interview pics on the Miss Delaware Facebook page. I’m sorry I didn’t get them all. I was in a tech rehearsal in the morning and missed the first handful of ladies.
There was also a last minute talent rehearsal to work out any last minute kinks. Some of the contestants took advantage of the opportunity while others took advantage of the opportunity to rest.
Miss America 1984 Susan Powell who is our pageant emcee arrived at 2:00 for rehearsal. The contestants had the opportunity to spend a little time with her chatting which always helps to make them more comfortable on stage. Susan is just amazing. We are always thrilled to have her here with us.
Our featured entertainers also arrived. I am SO thrilled with all of our entertainers this year. They have really creative and exciting solos to share with us.
Following rehearsal it was SHOW TIME! I am SO excited with how the show went. In my unbiased (hehe) opinion I think this is the best show we have ever done!!! The production numbers were on, the entertainers were amazing. Maria brought the house down with her Irish dance routine. She danced with some of her students and I literally could have watched them all night. Competition was FIERCE!!! I usually make a prediction for the preliminary awards. I honestly couldn’t last night. The awards could have gone a lot of different ways.
A huge congratulations to those who won awards last night. The Miss Delaware Community Service Awards went to: 2nd RU: Stephanie Bailey, 1st RU: Marcie Smith, Winner: Chelsea Betts. Preliminary Evening Gown went to Amanda Debus, Preliminary Swimsuit to Steffi Holmes and Preliminary Talent to Rebecca Jackson.
I am so proud of all of the contestants. Everyone was happy with the first nights show and looking forward to day 2 of competition.
Congratulations to Wednesday and Thursday’s Miss Spirit. Wednesday’s was Mikaila Ryan and Thursday’s was Ashley Morley. Both girls are just as sweet as can be and so deserving of this award.
There was one more special moment at the end of the evening when the Miss Delaware Board presented Maria with a scrapbook of memories from her year. It is no secret that the board just adores this Miss Delaware so it was one of those moments that everyone was fighting back tears. SO bittersweet!
